What is an Utterance?

An utterance refers to a single spoken or written expression made by a user when interacting with a conversational AI system. It is a discrete element of what the user says or types. Utterances can be simple sentences, questions, commands, or any type of human-language voice or text communication.

A user looking for a product demo, for example, might use utterances such as "see a demo", "watch a demo", "see a demonstration", "can I schedule a demo", "is there a video I can watch", "best way to see a demo of [product name]", etc.

Utterances are key to the functioning of conversational AI, chatbots,IVRs, and other voice interactive systems. These technologies are programmed to identify and understand utterances that form key phrases required for interacting with customers and other users.
